In a world where breast cancer is an increasingly prevalent threat, the timely detection and treatment of this disease can make all the difference in a person's life. This was the case for 32-year-old Ms. Pushpa Adasule, a domestic worker and single mother of four daughters from Pune. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Lions Rahatnekar Cancer Center (LRCC) in Pune, Ms. Adasule's breast cancer was detected early, and she received free treatment, making a remarkable recovery. Let's delve into her inspiring story and learn more about the invaluable work carried out by the LRCC.
A Chance Discovery:
Ms. Pushpa Adasule's journey took an unexpected turn when she attended an Awareness and Screening camp organized by the renowned LRCC in Pune. Despite financial constraints and a lack of formal education, Ms. Adasule made it a priority to visit the camp, which proved to be a life-changing decision. During the screening, breast cancer was accidentally detected, prompting immediate action by the dedicated medical team at LRCC.

Early Detection and Timely Treatment:
Following the diagnosis, Ms. Adasule received comprehensive medical investigations and underwent surgery at LRCC, all at no cost to her. With the compassionate support of the Lions and doctors at LRCC, she successfully completed her treatment and is now completely cured, returning to her daily routine. Ms. Adasule and her four daughters express their profound gratitude to the Lions and the doctors at LRCC for not only detecting her cancer early but also providing emotional counseling, free medication, and life-saving surgery.

Beyond Medical Care: A Holistic Approach:
LRCC, established in 2018 and supported by the Lions Club of Pune Sahakarnagar and Central, aims to create more success stories like Ms. Adasule's. The center, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as a Mammography machine, Sonography machine, and a 22-seater AC bus, focuses primarily on breast cancer awareness and screening campaigns for women aged 40 and above from all walks of life. Their dedicated team comprises well-trained technicians, experienced breast cancer surgeons, general surgeons, radiologists, and social workers.

The Power of Awareness and Prevention:
To date, LRCC has organized an impressive 550 screening and awareness camps in rural areas of Maharashtra, reaching out to a total of 50,000 women. These efforts have resulted in 3,000 mammography procedures and 35 successful operations. However, with breast cancer cases on the rise in India and a concerning ratio of 1 in 22 ladies in Pune, early detection remains a crucial factor in fighting this disease. Consequently, LRCC has set an ambitious goal to reach out to 100,000 women within the next two years.

Support and Donations:
The significant impact made by LRCC would not be possible without the support of generous individuals and organizations. If you wish to contribute to this noble cause or require more information, please contact Lion Sarita Sonawale, the Project Coordinator, at +919850676976.
