In 2007, the Lions Medicard program of District 324E3 received the prestigious Best PR Idea Contest award from Lions Clubs International at the International Convention. This recognition was well-deserved for a project that touched the lives of thousands of underprivileged individuals. The success of the Lions Medicard program not only garnered awards but also earned the gratitude and blessings of the people it aimed to help. Let us delve into the inspiring story behind this noble initiative.

A Unique Concept:
Governor George Cheryan of Lions District 324E3 conceptualized the Lions Medicard Program as a way to assist poor and sick individuals. The program aimed to provide free medicines to elderly patients in need. Functioning like an ATM card, the Lions Medicard was distributed to identified patients who regularly required medication. Each card had a designated amount, either Rs 500 or 1000, which patients could utilize at specified Medical Stores partnered with the program.

Collaboration and Transparency:
The program's success relied on collaboration between Lions clubs, designated Medical Stores, and district authorities. Medical Stores maintained records of the card usage until the designated amount was reached. The clubs verified and recommended the bills, which were then forwarded to the District Office for scrutiny. After thorough examination, the district authorities issued cheques to the Medical Stores for transparency. During the annual district convention, the Medical Stores were invited to be recognized for their valuable contributions.

Impact and Support:
The Lions Medicard Program resonated deeply with the beneficiaries, creating a lasting impact. Needy individuals who had previously been unaware of the Lions movement discovered that it was not solely for Lion members but also for people like them. The emotional moments witnessed by Lions officials during the distribution of the cards further reinforced the positive impact of the program.

Recognition and Generosity:
The Lions Medicard Program received global recognition as the best PR program of the year 2006-07 in the Lion's world. This achievement brought immense pride to Lions of District 324E3. Additionally, the program received support from the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), which provided a rare grant of US$10,000. The success of the program was made possible through the generous contributions of Lions District, clubs, and individuals who believed in its mission.

The Lions Medicard Program stands as a shining example of how the collective efforts of Lions clubs can make a profound difference in the lives of the less fortunate. By providing free medicines to those in need, the program offered a ray of hope and relief to the elderly sick population. The recognition received from Lions Clubs International and the heartfelt gratitude expressed by the beneficiaries reflect the true essence of Lions service. Let us celebrate the vision, dedication, and generosity of Lions District 324E3 and their commitment to making a meaningful impact on society.
