The devastating impact of the pandemic has highlighted the crucial need for adequate medical infrastructure, especially in providing oxygen support to those in critical condition. Recognizing this pressing need, District 324J in Chennai has taken on the remarkable task of constructing a Paediatric Oxygen Support Laboratory at the TB Sanatorium. This ongoing project is set to be completed by March 2023 and aims to provide life-saving care to children in need. With the support of dedicated sponsors, donors, and a committed building committee, this initiative will serve as a testament to the Lions' unwavering dedication to making a difference in their community.

The Importance of Oxygen Support:
During the pandemic, millions of individuals have been impacted by the virus, with many falling critically ill or losing their lives. Oxygen support has emerged as a lifeline for those affected, especially children. The existing laboratory, constructed by District 324 A1, has already supported nearly 10,000 patients, showcasing the vital role it plays in saving lives. Even as the pandemic continues, this life-saving service remains in operation, underscoring the ongoing need for an improved and dedicated facility.

Seizing an Opportunity for Permanent Impact:
In light of the critical role played by oxygen support, District Governor Lion BV Ravindran recognized the urgency of establishing a permanent project during his tenure. With the formation of a dedicated building committee overseeing the day-to-day construction process and the generous support of sponsors and donors, the project has been able to move forward seamlessly. By March, the Paediatric Oxygen Support Laboratory will be inaugurated, symbolizing a major milestone in the Lions' commitment to serving their community.

The Scope of the Project:
The proposed laboratory will occupy an impressive 5,100 square feet on the first floor of the TB Sanatorium. With an estimated cost of Rs. 1.5 crores, the facility will provide state-of-the-art medical equipment, which will be supplied by government agencies upon completion of the construction process. The TB Sanatorium, spread across 30 acres of land, has been serving TB patients for the past 90 years and has recently been recognized as the number one hospital in the country for its dedicated service. The Paediatric Oxygen Support Laboratory will further enhance the capabilities of this esteemed institution, serving as a beacon of hope for those in need.

A Catalyst for Change:
The construction of the Paediatric Oxygen Support Laboratory at the TB Sanatorium will not only provide essential medical facilities but also serve as a source of motivation for young leaders within the community. By demonstrating the power of collective action and the impact of Lions' service initiatives, this project will inspire future generations to continue making a positive difference in the lives of others.
