Transforming Education: Lions International Empowers Village School with New Building and Facilities
In a small village named Wavi Harsh, situated 55 km from Nasik, a significant educational transformation has taken place. The New English School, with 110 students from 8th to 10th standards, was facing numerous challenges due to its old and inadequate infrastructure. Recognizing the power of education in bringing about social change, the Lions Club of Nasik Star, District 3234D2, took the initiative to create a positive learning environment by constructing a new school building and providing essential facilities. This effort has not only improved educational opportunities but also positively impacted the lives of the students and the entire community.
A New Beginning:
The old school building, which lacked proper facilities and was prone to leakage during the rainy season, presented a significant hurdle to the students' education. Moreover, the distance of 5 to 10 km that students had to travel daily posed additional challenges. In response to these difficulties, the Lions Club of Nasik Star stepped in and decided to invest approximately 21 Lacs in the construction of a new school building. Additionally, two toilet blocks were built to provide much-needed sanitation facilities. The club also established a computer lab with five computers and introduced a Cycle Bank comprising 45 bicycles to facilitate easy commuting for the students.
Positive Impact and Enhanced Learning:
The efforts of the Lions Club have had a remarkable impact on the students, teachers, and parents of Wavi Harsh. The new school building and facilities have created a safe and positive learning environment, leading to increased admissions, particularly among girls. Students are now more enthusiastic and engaged in their studies, resulting in improved academic performance. The availability of these amenities has also eliminated the need for students to travel long distances to other schools, making education more accessible and convenient for the entire village.
A Vision for the Future:
The Lions Club of Nasik Star firmly believes that providing a positive learning environment and state-of-the-art facilities will pave the way for the right education and ultimately bring about positive social change in the village. To further enhance the educational experience, the club has planned to introduce additional facilities such as an E-Learning App, Career Guidance programs, a Science Lab, Lions Quest initiatives, and participation in the International Peace Poster Contest. These endeavours will empower the students and equip them with the necessary skills to navigate a rapidly changing world.
